Victory Day Celebration at University of Hyderabad on 12-05-2012



The function, dedicated to the Soviet Victory in the WWII and India's contribution to it, took place on Saturday, May 12, in School of Humanities Auditorium, UoH, Hyderabad. The function was organized by Indo-Russian Cultural and Friendship society (IRCUFS), Hyderabad branch with the support of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Chennai and Honorary Consulate of Russian Federation in Hyderabad. Prof. E. Hari Babu Pro-V.C. University of Hyderabad chaired the function. The special guest Mr. P.Thangappan, Secretary General of IRCUFS, Chennai gave an address highlighting Indo-Russian cultural, economic and scientific relations in past, present and future perspectives. Akulova Oxana, coordinator of IRCUFS Hyderabad branch, emphasized the importance of the Victory Day for Russian people and gave a concise review of India's contribution to the fight against fascism. Professor Mohd. Moazzam Ali, Department of Political Science, University of Hyderabad, a specialist in International Relations (primarily USSR and Russia) presented a fascinating survey about political situation before and during WW II. The programme was followed by documentary movie, depicting the Battle of Berlin, and by a concert of Soviet World War songs, given by Irina Tsarenko, Music coordinator in the International School of Hyderabad.

Among guest of the event were Adviser-Trade-Culture to Honorary Consul of Russian Federation in Hyderabad Dr.Y.S. Raja Kumari, Chief Operative official of MTC Andhra Pradesh Mr. Ashish Varma, distinguished professor of University of Hyderabad: Prof.S.G. Kulkarni, Prof. Probakara Rao, Prof. DattaGupta, Prof. Naresh Sharma, Russian guest from other parts of Andhra Pradesh, people from former USSR, students of EFLU and UoH.

The function has a big importance for Indo-Russian relations especially taking into account that the year 2012 marked the 65th Anniversary of Indo-Russian diplomatic relations and golden anniversary of military cooperation between India and Russia. So this function celebrated not only the Victory of Soviet Union but the Indo-Russian relation which is going from strength to strength and has remained an ideal of friendship and cooperation.

The Photo Exhibition has been open for two days and it has called forth a lot of discussions among students. So the influence of the event was very productive and left a good impact on students of UoH.
